The Vision

We can play a bigger role in making tomorrow better.

Tim Ritchie

We should all hold science in common.

Imagine a future of unfettered progress, fueled by people from all walks of life who leverage their scientific understanding to make life better. Through the philosophy of the Boston Science Common, the Museum of Science wants to ensure access to high-quality science, innovation and action — for everyone, everywhere, all the time.

We can achieve a science-forward future.

Through Centers for Public Science Learning that address major issues of our time, engaging spaces that convey cutting-edge science and convene communities, and strengthened operations, the Museum of Science will play a major role in creating a science-based future.

It happens here.

We’ve been one of the most trusted and beloved institutions around for nearly 200 years, with unique capacity to convene and inspire people across sectors and communities, locally and worldwide. We’ve cracked the code of making science fun and piloting next-generation experiences that engage communities with science and public health. We’re in the perfect position to reimagine what science museums can offer.

Why us?

Because we are delivering science at the pace of change.

We created the foundation for our Centers for Public Learning early in the COVID-19 pandemic through timely and engaging exhibits such as Project Vaccine: Our Best Defense. We extended our reach far beyond our walls through media-rich, interactive websites, town calls, community events, vaccine clinics and statewide polls. 74% of those reached were motivated to act and share what they’d learned.

Because we are demonstrating limitless reach.

The 47 million-user Roblox platform is the perfect place to reach kids where they are. We’re partnering with Roblox on Destination Mars: The New Frontier, an immersive platform that allows students to become astronauts exploring the International Space Station, the Moon, and an imagined colony on Mars. This is only the first in a long list of transformative digital projects that demonstrate the Museum’s ability to translate hard science into experiences that wow young people and let them build the skills to change the future.
